According to a survey conducted by Graphics, Visualization & Usability Center (GVU) of Georgia Institute of Technology, 88% users find website through other website, compare to 82% which come through search engines.
Maybe you have heard of Google, a new search engine which is receiving rave reviews for it ability to come up with relevent finds more accurately. Most of the time you have to wade through a few pages of relevant finds before actually arrive at what you really want. With Google, it even have a "I feel Lucky" button, that will retrieve the top picks for you. It find out how many sites are linking to the site you're looking for and how important or popular are the sites that link to it. There are also a few other search engine which use this approach. Most people say search engine is the way to promote a site. As you can see from the survey, there are other avenue which is more effective. Submitting to search engines is easy but you have to wait a few weeks to know if you are listed. Not just listed but listed good (in a good position AND in a good search engine). It will be some time until your site made it to the top 10 or top 20. Why not pass the time by playing the linking game?.
I start promoting my website by submitting to FFA (Free-For-All) pages . There are a lot of FFA pages out there.You can do it one by one or use multiple site submission. Visitors to these FFA sites who are looking for free traffic generators (that is one of this site major attraction), will come to my site and take a look. If they like it, they will use it and put it on their website (along with my link). Others will come to their site and do the same thing. In the end you will end up with a lot a links and a lot of visitors.
